17th June: Net zero is not Simply an Electrification Story. It is also a Carbon Management Story.

Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is increasingly recognised as a necessary component of credible net-zero pathways, particularly for addressing residual emissions from hard-to-abate sectors. This session will explore the transition from CDR potential to deployment, examining the technologies, infrastructure, energy requirements, and financing and policy mechanisms needed to scale permanent carbon removal.

Drawing on developments across the US, UK, EU and Australia, the presentation will also examine emerging international policy frameworks and the growing role of carbon management within industrial de-carbonisation and long-term climate strategies.

13th May: Financing Strategies for New Energy and New Nuclear

The transition to new energy systems is increasingly driven by both technological innovation and evolving financing models. In this session, Brynne Kennedy will explore emerging energy technologies and the market trends shaping them, alongside the development of financing structures across equity, debt, and project finance. Drawing on case studies from Smart Society Capital’s portfolio, the discussion will offer insights into private energy markets in the US and Europe.

A particular focus will be placed on the new nuclear value chain, highlighting the financing mechanisms required to bring these projects to fruition.

22nd April: Public control, successful transition

Parking is much more than a service—it is a public policy tool. The Fondation des Parkings will illustrate how it supports the energy transition through electromobility initiatives, including charging infrastructure and electric taxis, while encouraging modal shift through P+R facilities and infrastructure dedicated to soft mobility. Tailored offerings for residents, professionals, and commuters, support for corporate mobility plans, and facilitation of car-sharing are all part of a comprehensive strategy. Regulation through pricing and enforcement complements this approach. Public management ensures a long-term vision aligned with collective urban challenges rather than purely economic objectives..

14th January: Why the economics of green hydrogen are about to shift

Green hydrogen is produced by electrically splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen – a process executed by electrolysers. However, legacy electrolysers currently used rely on outdated designs and electrode technologies that are inefficient and cannot adapt to fluctuating energy supplies. They consume too much energy and cannot tap into cheap renewable power or day-ahead electricity markets – driving green hydrogen costs up. This presentation shows how new electrode technologies and modern electrolyser architectures are overcoming these barriers and unlocking flexible, affordable green hydrogen production.

14th May: Energy transition in North America

Great strides have been made in the development of renewable energy sources. The share of total  primary energy consumption related to renewables reached 14.6% in 2023. Together with nuclear, they represented over 18% of total primary energy consumption. Global investment in clean energy has seen a huge increase over the last 8 years, while investment in fossil fuels has dropped off slightly. Yet, despite massive investment, supportive legislation, and huge resources dedicated to the increasing use of renewables, fossil fuels as a source of primary energy are still ~81%.
