Summary

Great strides have been made in the development of renewable energy sources. The share of total  primary energy consumption related to renewables reached 14.6% in 2023. Together with nuclear, they represented over 18% of total primary energy
consumption. Global investment in clean energy has seen a huge increase over the last 8 years, while investment in fossil fuels has dropped off slightly.

Yet despite massive investment, supportive legislation, and huge resources dedicated to the increasing use of renewables, fossil fuels as a source of primary energy are still ~81%.

DEAN TUCKER

Dean has over 30 years of experience in the petroleum industry both domestically and internationally working with junior, intermediate, senior and integrated multinational companies as well as time spent in the service sector. He has worked on exploration, production and development projects as well as A&D and corporate restructuring in North America, South America, Africa and the North Sea. Between 2003 and 2014 Dean held senior management roles at a number of oil and gas companies, most recently Chief Operating Officer of Caracal Energy Inc. After the sale of Caracal in 2014 he happily retired in order to pursue volunteer opportunities. Dean served on the Board of Karate Alberta from 2014 to 2018, and volunteered from 2018 to 2023 as Vice-Chair of WPC Canada Board and the COO of the 24th WPC Congress held in Calgary in September of 2023. Dean currently serves as the Chair of the WPC Energy Canada Board.
